Literature Text

It was another one of those nights that ha to be spent out in the middle of nowhere, nothing but vast layers of sand extending out in all visible directions around you. The dim light of the small fire provided the warmth the warmth to help you through the cold that deserts often brought, sleeping bags circling the small fire that were filled with resting forms. You were not among those forms though, instead sitting in the sand at the edge of the fire’s glow, staring up at the stars. You figured you were the only one awake among the group, until a subtle shift of the sand behind you told you otherwise. Jotaro was the one who disturbed the sand, him sitting down next to you and answering your silent question.

“The stars are beautiful tonight, aren’t they?” Jotaro said coolly, gazing up at the sky as well.

You scoffed with a small grin, amused by his choice of a starting sentence. “Indeed. They’re quite amazing.” You responded without fail.

“They’re much more visible out here compared to back at home.” He commented.

“Yeah. It’s so clear here in the desert.” You agreed. Pausing a moment, you hummed, and continued. “It’s so wild. Seeing all this. We’ve come so far in the world, and seen so many things up until this point. It’s… amazing to be among these stars.”

    “It really is.” Jotaro agreed.

“Really though, out of all the places I could be among the stars, I’m here, headed to destroy a vampire with you.” You chuckled.

He hummed in agreement, staring up at the celestial bodies. “Anywhere among the stars… A little bit of a shitty destiny, but fun nonetheless.”

You had to laugh at that, the truth being undeniable. “Y’know, it’s crazy to think that everything out here and way up there is bade of stardust; simple clusters of atoms and cells and such under just the right conditions. It’s crazy, but beautiful.” You said, getting a little philosophical.

“We could’ve been anywhere in the universe, and both you and I ended up here.” Jotaro added, following along.

“Well in that case… I’m glad my particles of stardust landed here with you. I wouldn’t have it any other way.” You said, turning towards him.

Jotaro turned to look at you as well, looking quite surprised. “Wow, really?”

“Mmm hmm. We’re all just bits of stardust on a crusade. I’m glad it’s with you though. I really am.” You said sincerely, looking up at him with a kind smile.

“I… Feel the same.” Jotaro responded, stuck in a dazed thought of stars, and you.

The two of you just stared at each other fir a while, speaking with nothing but your eyes before you both leaned in at the same time and kissed each other, the lock of your lips being both expected and unexpected. It was brief, the need to continue fading as you both pulled back, processing what was just exchanged through unspoken words.

“I’ve… Wanted to do that for a bit.” Jotaro finally spoke, the faintest of blushes on his cheeks.

“Hahah, you’re so sweet for a brutal person.” You laughed, finding him genuinely sweet.

“That’s just how my stardust formed.” He shrugged. “But, I could get used to doing that more. If that’s fine with you.”

“Of course. I feel like this will be a great new beginning for us.” You answered with a smile.

And like a new star being born from dust, you kissed once more in the glow of the fire, your beings making this crusade well worth being on together as your new affection blossomed before you.

    The universe really was magical.
