You were just out on your usual afternoon stroll, wandering the fields near the outskirts of Morioh as you veered from the dirt path meant to be followed. You were feeling adventurous, so why not take to unknown trails to make your afternoon interesting. Getting lost was your favourite part of the day since you had your own place now.

Skirting through tall grass you soon came by a stream, one of the old abandon transmission towers standing tall ahead of you. There really was nothing out here other than the tower, so you just stopped and stared in hopes of finding a new and interesting direction to go. Something caught your eye though. Smoke… A plume of smoke was rising from one side of the tower, thin and white. Confused, you focused on that spot with squinted eyes, attempting to try and see what the hell that smoke was coming from. You couldn’t exactly tell but you did make out a clothes line, instilling even more confusion upon you. This tower definitely had to be checked out now, so you jogged on up to it and stood underneath the structure, fully intending to climb it.

Looking up you certainly seen some oddities hanging from the structure, fueling your curiosity as you started your ascent of the tower. Now you were a climber, but this was proving to be obnoxiously difficult, not usually climbing freakin’ transmission towers in your spare time. Nonetheless you had persevered and pulled yourself up many feet into the air along the metal structure, leveling yourself at the place where you had seen the smoke pluming from before. There was literally a pan simmering over a small fire. A pan! Not to mention that the clothes line had full sets of clothes on it and a toilet sat on the far end of the corner of the structure at this level. This really weirded you out now. It was almost as if someone was living here or something.

“What are you doing up here?” A male voice suddenly questioned you from out of the blue.

Not expecting someone to actually be up here you yelped a little in surprise, briefly losing your balance and nearly falling off from the shock. “W-wha? I was just checking this out! There’s random stuff up here for some reason, so I was investigating. What are you doing up here yourself then?” You questioned back once recovering from the surprise as you turned around to see eye to eye with the stranger.

“I live here.” He stated, crossing his arms as he leaned with perfect balance on the tower, standing slightly across from you on another support.

“You what?” You questioned, staring at the man with wide eyes. “You live on an abandoned tower?!”

“I have for a long time. So technically.” He started, kicking the tower and sending a bolt flying across to the other side while he rode on it. “You’re intruding on my property… But,” He said, hopping gracefully off to attend to the simmering pan before him. “Care to stay for lunch then if you’re so intrigued by this place?”

You blinked, a little surprised by his mode of transportation before staring at him with an utterly confused expression. “What?! First you question my presence, then you insist I stay?”

“I haven’t had someone talk to me in months. You’re the first one to dare climb this place in a while, and you seem interested.” He told you.

You scoffed, seeming quite intrigued by this man. “I am indeed interested. I’ll humor you a visit, considering this place is exactly where someone would come for a visit in the first place.” You answered, balancing your way across to where he stood.

“Actually, this place is a tourist spot. People’s visits have just slowed down recently, and I’ve never felt a good spark in a conversation in a long time. You did just successfully scale my home after all. No one has ever done that.” He chuckled.

“This place? A tourist spot? …Shit I need to get out more.” You chuckled in surprise, sitting down on a flat piece of triangular metal to get comfortable, even if you were quite high up.

“There’s no time like the present.” He grinned, quickly serving up whatever he had cooked for an odd afternoon discussion.

From there, you talked, exchanging names as a first. Toyohiro and _______. You talked on for hours and hours, lost in conversation as if you had always known each other. Toyohiro found no threat in you, and despite his oddities, you found none in him either. The both of you opened up very quickly, that spark in conversation he was talking about earlier really showing its colours as you spoke. You felt quite comfortable and could safely say that you made a new good friend very quickly. Who knew that scaling an abandoned transmission tower would lead to such a good thing?

Eventually though, your deeply involved conversation had to come to an end, the pink and orange tints in the sky being your signal to go home.

“Oh god, I should get going. The afternoon turned into evening real quick.” You mentioned, gazing at the sky.

“Ah, I suppose so.” Toyohiro agreed, noting the time as well. “Well that was… Nice. I haven’t conversed like that in quite a while. Could you maybe… Come back tomorrow?” He asked you, a slight plead in his eyes.

You grinned at his expression, nodding to his request. “I will. But for now, goodbye! My home calls.”

With that, you both nodded at each other, you carefully clambering down the structure and to the ground to run home. Toyohiro watched you disappear through the tall grass from his perch, a little smile on his face. He felt truly connected with you when you spoke, and shook his head at the tingly feeling he got when he thought about it. Sighing, he started to cook himself some dinner, that small little smile never leaving.

He was very excited to see you again after all.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

As you had said, you came back the very next day in the afternoon for another visit, immediately ascending the tower as soon as you reached the ground underneath it. You greeted Toyohiro on a lower support catching him while he was fishing to strike up another deep conversation. The talking of course lit up like a fire, immediately delving into matters deeper than the previous day. In fact, you talked for a solid six hours, completely disregarding the time as you went.

“So yeah. I’ve kinda been living up here for a really long time. Isolated, but peaceful nonetheless.” Toyohiro nodded, answering one of your questions.

“It’s crazy how you’ve made a living up here. It really is impressive.” You complimented.

“Yeah. The only downside is I do get a bit lonely.” He laughed.

“Good thing I randomly scaled this tower yesterday then.” You grinned, giving him a thumbs up.

He chuckled at that. “Of course. I almost feel like I’m deceiving you though.”

“How so?” You questioned, tilting your head in curiosity.

“This isn’t even my face.” He scoffed, scratching near the base of his neck and revealing that he was wearing a very thin mask, the latex now clinging to his fingers where he lifted.

“Whoa. That’s… Freaky but cool.” You commented with wide eyes.

“You wanna know what’s even freakier? The reason I can never leave this tower. And before you ask why, I’ll show you. Come down to the ground with me.” He told you, already descending the structure.

Curiosity fuelling you, you followed after him, though at a much slower pace since you don’t regularly climb towers in your spare time. Once on the ground, Toyohiro gestured for you to stand outside the perimeter of the tower, to which you obeyed.

    “Watch.” He said simply.

He went t reach his arm outside of the boundaries of the tower, but as soon as his hand passed it, it began to turn to metal, becoming sheeted with tough steel. You stared in shock at the sight, wondering what kind of madness just happened.

“I can’t leave this tower unless there’s someone else to take my place here.” He said, retracting his arm. “This is what is called a stand ability. As far as I’m concerned you aren’t a stand user, but the independence of this stand with me is a little different than most of them, so you can see the effect.”

You stared, moth agape as you took in all the crazy new information. “Holy shit. This is all, crazy. Yet incredibly fascinating. Wow.” You breathed, coming back in and hauling yourself up onto the lowest horizontal support beam.

“Crazy is an understatement. My life is absolutely maddening.” He chuckled, pulling himself up beside you.

You laughed along in agreement, slightly shaking your head. “I’m mostly surprised that you just told me all that information. Like, you trust me with all that stuff.”

“Well… I just felt like you should know these things about me. You’re the first person I’ve talked with like this for long periods of time and really connected with. I just think you should know some of my… Dumb secrets. Y’know, since I’m basically lying about my entire person.” He said with a sort of mumble, running a finger over the impossible to see line of where the mask started.

You watched his slightly guilty expression, but only smiled in response instead. “Whatever’s you is you. It doesn’t really matter to me. Your personality is still the same, and I like it!” You told him reassuringly. “Besides, I bet you look just as cute without that mask on as you do with it.” You added on with a wink.

Toyohiro took a very quick look at you with a freshly noticeable blush that made it through the thin structure of his mask as if it were truly his face. He went to go and say something bet you quickly leapt from the support and to the ground, grinning up at him mischievously.

“Sorry to be so abrupt but I’ve gotta go! The sun is setting and I’ve got a home to check up on.” You called up to him. “I’ll see you tomorrow!”

He stared, forgetting words for a moment before he shook his head and regained his thought process. “A-alright! See you!” He called back, you dashing off for home once again.

As you left he swung himself back up the tower, going on to make himself a late dinner, feeling quite excited about your return the next day.

And like you had done before, you returned. Every day you came back in the afternoon or evening and stayed for hours, talking with Toyohiro as if tomorrow would never come. This went on for weeks, building up a strong trust between the two of you as you shared stories and experiences alike. You even learned how to maneuver around the tower with more skill, keeping up with Toyohiro as you swung around.

One day, as you skillfully swung up to the midpoint of the tower with Toyohiro, you began talking about life on the tower in general, minding the fact that he could never leave unless someone stayed in the tower for him.

“So, you’re basically stuck up here all the time. I mean, except for when I’m here, but you’re just stuck here.” You commented.

“Yeah. It sounds bad, but it’s not to terrible. It’s sort of an easy lifestyle.” He responded.

“I guess so. For me though, it would be terrifying to be stuck up here all alone.” You told him. “Well, maybe not so much now that I know I wouldn’t be in complete danger, but still.”

Toyohiro seemed to flinch at that remark, looking a little guilty as he glanced up and away from your line of sight. You got an immediate sense of suspicion upon noticing that, narrowing your eyes at him.

“What was that look for?” You questioned.

“Well, uh, about the you being stuck up here thing…” He started, trailing his sentence off as he spoke.

Then before you could register it, Toyohiro suddenly jumped and began sliding down the tower at an incredible speed. You, almost shocked, began to chase after him. He hit the ground seconds before you, dashing out into the open while you tried to keep up. You stopped immediately though as your outstretched arm began to turn to metal, realizing that he had escaped the boundaries of the tower before you could. Immediately you pulled yourself back, grasping your arm in shock to make sure that it was still made of flesh. Looking back up to see where Toyohiro was at, you seen him just near the edge of where the tall grass started, him looking back at you with a bit of guilt in his eyes.

“Dude what the fuck?!” You yelled out at him, quite cross with his sudden actions.

“Just trust me! I promise I’ll be back! This is really important!” He called back at you, giving you an expression of distress.

You sighed deeply and cursed inwardly many times before responding. “FINE! But only because I really do trust you!” You yelled in response.

As if he truly needed your permission, he gave a frantic nod of thanks before taking off in a run away from the tower, his run looking very much like he had forgotten how to use his legs on solid ground. Turning around you gave a very annoyed growl, but let it go since you couldn’t do much about your situation anyway.

“Right when I say being stuck here alone would be horrifying.” You scoffed. “Well, I guess it’s time for me to fully see what makes this place so comforting in nothing but my own company then.”

Pouting slightly, you climbed up the tower and stopped at the level his cooking supplies was on and began to cook something nice, using what ever he had there to create something good and pass the time.

Having started to make something that would cook slow and simmer, you began to swing around the structure with surprising balance and ease, hoisting yourself up to the highest point you could reach to take in the scenery. The sky was turning yellow, twilight was near, and you took a moment to stare out at the picture the world was painting for you while you waited or Toyohiro’s return.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Two hours had gone by since Toyohiro had left unexpectedly, and the sun had almost completely slipped away behind the curve of the earth by now. An orange pink glow gave haloing to everything it touched with long and dark shadows, the sky being stuck in a state where the stars could be seen in deep purple, but the sun still shone bright streaks here and there. You were perched a couple levels above the food you had started cooking a while ago, the smoke thinly drifting past you as you watched the sky before you.

It was at this time that Toyohiro returned from wherever he went to, a hand behind his back tightly gripping something as he approached the tower. Using his free hand, he made his way up to where you were, passing by the delicious smelling meal you had on the go to reach you.

Once he had made it up to the level you were on, he leaned against one of the main supports and put his other hand behind his back to readjust the grip he had on the thing, or rather things that he held. Now content with himself, he cleared his throat to make his presence known to you, as you were currently transfixed on the view the tower gave you. You perked up at the new sound amongst the sizzle of food and light wind, turning your head towards where it came from. “Oh, Toyohiro! You’re back!” You said rather calmly, standing up from where you sat to greet him.

“Yep. Told you I’d come back.” He said with a little smile.

“Of course.” You chuckled. “While you were gone though, I seen why you find so much tranquility alone here. It really isn’t all that bad here.” You told him honestly. “Though, I do still like it a lot more when you are here more than not.”

That seemed to warm his heart, and brought a smile to his face. “Aw, that’s really sweet of you _______!” He said, earning a grin from you in response.

“So, Toyohiro, why did you suddenly run off on me like that?” You questioned, bringing up the incoming topic sooner than he had expected.

Sighing, he rather nervously glanced around before finding his words to answer you. “_-______, I, ah… I went off to get you these.” He managed to get out, pulling his hands out from behind his back.

What he first pulled out was a beautiful bouquet of roses, graciously handing them to you in their assorted beauty. You were shocked and speechless, taking the bouquet into your hands and staring at them for a moment. When you looked back up Toyohiro was now holding a bottle of wine, a nervous expression on his face.

“I-It took a little longer than expected because I got lost trying to find the liquor store, and I had to detour to where I planted roses a long time ago. S-sorry.” He explained.

You stared at him with wonder, a tiny blush on your cheeks. “What did you do all this for?”

“I-I wanted to thank you for always stopping by, and keeping me company. You’re so kind for hearing me out the way you have been, and I’ve grown to trust you with it all. I… I’ve even fallen for you…” He mumbled with a heavy blush. “S-so will you have dinner with me and… c-consider always coming here as often as you can? T-to be with me. Because I’m in love with you.” He fully confessed, eyes shifted to one side to avoid making eye contact in his embarrassed state.

You couldn’t help but grin now, quickly putting the flowers down on a wider edge and approaching him. “Of course I will.” You said without hesitation, leaning forward and bringing your lips to his and placing your arms at his shoulders.

The surprise kiss was brief, causing Toyohiro’s face to flare up even more. He was so surprised though that he lost his balance, ending up toppling over slightly and falling off the beam, you falling with him. Both of you were quick witted and nimble enough though and caught the next beam down with the backs of your knees, dangling upside down from the support. You both stared at each other for a moment, the wine still clutched in one of Toyohiro’s hands, surprisingly unshaken. Then, you both busted out laughing, unable to ignore the hilarity of the situation.

“Toyohiro,” You started, ceasing the giggles that had overcome you. “I’m in love with you as well.” You finished, giving him a quick upside down kiss. “I’ll visit as often as I can, and maybe even stay a few nights too.”

He had to smile at that, thoroughly happy. “I knew there was something special about you the moment we first spoke. I knew I could trust you.” He said sincerely, swinging forward a bit to capture you in a much deeper and more loving kiss. Though it was brief like the first, it was meaningful, and you felt as if you truly knew every inch of him from the feel of his lips.

When you parted, you stared into his golden eyes and smiled widely.

“So, should we have dinner? Whatever you cooled smells incredible.” He gushed.

“Of course.” You smiled, the both of you swinging down to where the food was, excited to dine with each other and sit with your special and newfound love and trust.

Climbing this tower that day… Was truly your best decision ever.

I typed this all out starting at 5 A.M. this morning at work.

I have no fucking life.
